February is African Heritage Month and Black History Month, but we know research about Black history and scholarship isn’t confined to one month of the year. The SMU Library has resources to support your research on these topics year round.
The SMU Library subscribes to many journals in the subject area of African and Black history and scholarship. As a SMU student, staff or faculty member all of these resources are available to you! Not sure what a journal is? Scholarly journals publish articles that will help you with your research. Watch a SMU Library tutorial or read an overview of scholarly journal characteristics to learn more.
The Library also subscribes to databases with significant African and Black scholarship and historical content you may be interested in:
- Adam Matthew Digital Collections includes the Slavery, Abolition, and Social Justice Collection, a historical primary source collection
- Gale Database Selection includes Gale OneFile Diversity Studies
- America History and Life has extensive coverage of Black and African American historical topics
- Films on Demand collection includes thousands of videos and documentaries on Black, African American and African Canadian experience, and a collection of African Diaspora films
